LASTMA ARRESTS THREE NOTORIOUS ‘ONE CHANCE’ ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVER OPERATIONAL VEHICLE AT ABULE-EGBA, LAGOS

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today arrested three notorious ‘one chance’ armed robbers by Jubilee Bridge around Abule-Egba area of Lagos.

In a press statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that they were arrested by LASTMA personnel alongside with their operational vehicle a painted ‘T4’ commercial bus (APP 406 YE) at U-turn area of Abule-Egba.

Immediately they were arrested one of them escaped with a P.O.S machine before the arrival of the Police men.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they were notorious ‘one-chance’ armed robbers terrorising the entire Abule-Egba and its environs.

Investigation further revealed that they were being chased by members of the public after they noticed that a man was pushed down from their vehicle after robbing him of his valuables.

They drove recklessly in order to evade arrest before they were eventually caught by Lastma officials controlling and managing traffic around the Abule-Egba axis.

The two suspects were later handed over to Police men from the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for further investigation.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr Bakare Oki Olalekan however appealed to members of the public particularly commuters to be very vigilant and stop boarding commercial buses by road side popularity called ‘So-le’

OSSAP-TVEE, Ministry of Labour Signs MoU on Skill Development

The Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAPTVEE) Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Labour and Employment on the development of skills among youths in the country.

The ceremony, which took place at the office of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha, was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Ismaila Abubakar, directors of the Ministry as well as the OSSAP-TVEE Team.

In her brief remarks before the signing ceremony, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, Madam AbiolaArogundade, expressed delight at the signing of the agreement describing it as a milestone in the collaborative development and upscaling of skills in Nigeria.

Madam Arogundade, who noted that the percentage of the high-skilled labour in the country currently is at the abysmal low of 15 percent, added that her office is currently engaged in  conducting  a skills mapping survey across the 36 states of the Federation to identify relevant skills required in the Job Market,  

She also pointed out that her office is in collaboration with the TETFUND and the National Bureau on Technical Education (NBTE) both to ensure adequate funding support for its programmes and the Certification of Vocational Skills beneficiaries for proper job placement, among other programmes currently being executed by the office.


Article 3 of the MoU,
requires the two bodies to collaborate to achieve an effective and efficient implementation of the President’s 8 point Agenda with respect to Job Creation by creating a descent and sustainable jobs per year to Nigerians, particularly the Youths and to work together to achieve the goals of Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP).

This, according to the Article, include the creation of 2.5 million jobs annually especially in the area of vocational and entrepreneurship skills, collaborate among themselves on planning, execution and evaluation of LEEP by ensuring the effective utilization of the resources and expertise and to coordinate regular meetings and progress reports that will be scheduled to assess the achievements and challenges of the programme.

While Article 5 of the MoU also confers on the OSSAP-TVEE the responsibility of  conducting  a skills mapping survey to identify relevant skills required in the Job Market, the Offices agrees to develop a comprehensive curriculum aligned with the identified skills and to oversee the certification process as contained in Article 4  subsection 2 of the MoU.

The Ondo State-born lady, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on technical vocation and entrepreneurship education, cut her teeth first with the British House of Commons from 2004 to 2009, where she served as a Policy Researcher and Adviser for the All Parliamentary Party Group for Africa. Where she advised on critical Foreign Direct Investment matters, presenting comprehensive analyses to influential figures, and steering high-stakes discussions on debt relief and governance-related issues in Africa.

 She also served at the Lagos State Government, as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Economic Planning from 2009 to 2015. Her tenure was marked by pioneering the establishment of the Evidence-Based Impact Assessment Unit, where she meticulously analysed budget allocations’ effects on the economy, redirected funds for maximum impact, and presented comprehensive reports to the executive council. Last weekend on the 8th of June, in her capacity as SSA EVEE, she once again showed the stuff she was made of when she unveiled her Unleash Potentials, Driving Economic Potentials U-Lock Programme while participants graduated after months of intense training and they were presented with startup grants worth N500,000. The event which was held at Asokoro, Abuja had an attendance of over 120 participants, including top government officials, aides, ministers and other captains of industry. Arogundade disclosed that the U-lock program was conceptualized to bring hope to the youth demography and also teach them the potential of learning handiwork and transit from the white-collar world to creating jobs and employment through unlocking potentials. She also gave out solar-fitted mobile kiosks to winners. She also through the Corporate Affairs Commission CAC registered their businesses and also ensured they opened a bank account with Providus Bank to ensure smooth transactions and free flow of funds for economic gains.

It was gathered that the Celebrant Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs who is also the paramount head, of Oruwari Briggs War Canoe Houses of Abonnema, the Chairman of Petroleum Limited and the CEO of DLB Group of Companies is set to begin a sequel of activities to mark his 60th birthday as he will be celebrated to the high heavens by friends, family and associates in the coming weeks.
