REDTV ’s Series TMC, Named Gage Awards 2020 ‘Web Series of the Year 2020’

The Men’s Club (TMC), Africa’s highly-anticipated online series powered by the United Bank for Africa’s Lifestyle and Entertainment channel, REDTV, has emerged the winner of Gage’s Awards’ Web Series of the Year 2020. Following a thorough audit by the organizers of the awards, TMC which was nominated alongside four other popular online shows, clinched the highly coveted award, and was announced as the winner in an elaborate virtual event which was held on Saturday, April 24th, 2021. 

Now in its third season, TMC is one of the top hits from REDTV, producers of other popular shows like Our Best Friend’s Wedding, Inspector K, Assistant Madams, RedHot Topics, Hotel Boutique and a host of other entertaining content.

The Men’s Club has enjoyed a huge following since its launch in 2018, taking viewers on a roller-coaster ride with Africa’s hottest screen men – Ayoola Ayoola, Efa Iwara, Daniel Etim and Baaj Adegbule. Their adventure filled with love, friendship, fear, betrayal and Romance has had viewers clamoring for more. The show also stars top actors like Sharon Ooja, Mimi Chaka, Folu Storms and features some of Nollywood’s finest legends like Sola Sobowale and Shaffy Bello.

Executive Producer, REDTV, Bola Atta, thanked the organizers of the Gage awards for the recognition as she elaborated on the mission of REDTV since it was birthed five years ago. She said, “REDTV was set up to support Africa’s creative industry. Developing and nurturing talent is what we are most focused on as we make available opportunities for creative people across the continent. We do this through the creation of compelling and positive stories about Africa and Africans’.

Acknowledging UBA’s continuous investment in REDTV and in SMEs, Atta who is also the bank’s Director of Corporate Communications, said, “REDTV was birthed by the United Bank for Africa, to support the youths and the creative sector in Nigeria and across the African continent and for over five years we have been creating employment through entertainment. At UBA, we aim to empower talented and creative professionals in the pursuit of their dreams whilst they contribute to economic growth.

She disclosed that the online platform will be launching more pan- African content in the next few weeks, which she stated, will further connect African talent to the world, providing the best in entertainment and storytelling to its teeming fans.

Organizers of the awards, said the aim of the Gage Awards, which is in its second year, is to recognize institutions that have added value towards making the internet a haven for the development of African content.

Promising Nigerian artiste Ibadin expensive says his ability to create happiness through his songs give him joy and will directly impact positively in the life’s of many, Recently this Auchi Polytechnic ND graduate in a chat with the media explain why he venture into the industry, his kind of music and other sundry issues about him and the industry, enjoy the chat……………………….

 

 

How are you, can we meet you?

Yes you are welcome my name is Ibadin Expensive.

 

Tell us about yourself?

I went to Auchi polytechnic Auchi in Edo state, I studied computer science and graduated with OND in 2016.

 

How was your early life like?

I grow up as an ordinary child and manage to go through school it wasn’t easy but I had to survive.

How did you venture into the music industry?

Well music for me started in school I use to follow my friend to his studio sections to record and he started encouraging me to start making music with him and that was how it started we actually made a couple of songs together back then but I never took it seriously until 2018 when I went to visit another friend of mine OHB and he had a studio in his house and he told me I could come and record for free and that was it.

 

Are you with any record label now?

I’m currently not in any record label but the journey has been great so far and I just hope for the best.

 

Are you consulting to join any record label soon?
I’m just getting started and I only hope and pray for the best.

 

Tell us the experience and journey so far in the industry?
I have always known the journey won’t be easy but as I said earlier the journey has been great and I only hope and pray for the best.

 

Is the government doing enough to encourage upcoming artists like you in the industry?

Well, I think the government is doing their best and it all depends on us to work hard so we can achieve our goals.

 

Are you satisfied with the level of creativity in the industry?
Yes, I am very satisfied with Nigeria’s music content and I believe with time our music will be everywhere.

 

Is the industry there yet?
Not yet but with time we’ll get there.

 

Which major artiste did you wish to work with within Nigeria?
I will say Wizkid, Davido, Burnaboy.

 

What of any International collaboration?
Internationally I will prefer Drake, Young thug and Future.

 

You did not tell us your marital status?
I’m single.

 

How do you relax?
I spend most time with myself and sometimes with friends and family.

 

 

Tell me the kind of friends or opposite sex you like to be with?

I will say different, simple and straightforward.

 

How will you best describe your kind of music?

I will describe my music as a unique sound a mix of afro-fusion and afro soul.

 

What is your unique selling point?

My vibes and flow.

 

How?

I just want it to develop and evolve in whatever direction it found.

 

Who and who among the top players in the music industry inspired you?

Wizkid, Burnaboy, Popcaan and Drake. Fela, 2face, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Rihanna
They really inspire me each time I listen to their music, they are geniuses.

 

Tell me some of other artiste songs that gives you more inspiration aside from your own music?

Ambition by Wale
Blue notes by meek mill
Each time I listen to these songs it reminds me a lot about me.

 

Can we say you are born with music?

I have always been interested in music ever since I was very young.

 

What gives you joy about the kind of music you sing?

The ability to create something that doesn’t exist into existence for people to play it and enjoy it is a thing of joy for me. My music says a lot about me as a person, my experience, things going on around me, relationships, friends and so on.

 

Which project are you working on now?

I’m working on a project called Timeless but for now I will be droppings until is done.

THE VOICE NIGERIA: LATE SOUND SULTAN HONOURED AS RACE FOR N10M, OTHER PRIZES ENTERS FINAL STAGE

…As six vocalists battle for a chance to make the last four on The Voice Nigeria Season 3.

 

 

 

Late legendary Nigerian rapper, singer and lyricist, Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi popularly called Sound Sultan who passed on July 11 was honoured with a medley performance of his songs by the celebrity coaches and their talents as a glowing tribute in recognition and celebration of his contribution to the music industry. Sound Sultan, a highly influential but jovial and unassuming singer is renowned to have mentored many award-winning musicians and wrote many hit songs.

 

The grand finale of the Voice Nigeria Season 3 is billed for this weekend, with the top six talents seeking viewers and fans’ votes to win the N10m grand prize and other mouth-watering gifts. 

  

Meanwhile, Episode 17 saw great vocalists Anu and Nuel Ayo exit the show while Naomi Mac, Esther, Dapo, Kitay, Kpee and Eazzie continued the race as the last six out of the 25 talents who scaled the

Auditions and started the contest.

 

Kitay in Team Yemi-Alade, Dapo and Naomi Mac in Team Falz, Eazzie in Team Waje with Esther and Kpee in Team Dare all survived by numerous votes from their fans.

 

The race to the finals of the Voice Nigeria season 3 continues to heat up as the six finalists gun for the N10 million cash, a car, and a record deal with Universal Music Nigeria.

 

During Episode 17 last weekend, the last six vocalists performed various songs and are hoping with their powerful performances to get maximum votes from fans for a chance to remain in the

competition. 

 

Esther opened the weekly show with a beautiful performance of Beyonce’s Love on Top, then Dapo with Michael Bolton’s When A Man Loves A Woman, followed by Kitay with Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing. 

 

Naomi Mac sang Brenda Fassie’s Vuli Ndlela, Kpee with Fireboy’s Vibration while a very emotional Eazzie closed out with I’m Not Telling You by Jennifer Holiday before Host, Nancy Isime announced that Season 4 will be coming soon.

 

Episode 18 which comes up this weekend will have only four talents perform and fight for the grand prize via the highest viewers votes while the two talents with the least votes are dropped.

For over three months, with an electrifying mix of pulsating musical performances, music training, glamorous fashion and awesome entertainment, The Voice Nigeria 3 continues to dazzle to the very grand finale.

 

UN1TY Limited and Livespot360, producers of the global talents reality series, also emphasised that public voting has become very crucial at this final stage to keep participants on the voice Nigeria season 3, as sponsored by FirstBank, Baba Ijebu and Airtel.

 

Scores of vocalists have performed on the highly competitive musical TV reality series but dropped out going through the Auditions, Blinds, Knockouts, Battles and Live Show stages.

Whoever emerges as the winner will automatically make his or her coach the winning coach of the season. Waje, who has been part of the show since its inception, won the inaugural season.

 

Apart from versatile singers including Darey, Yemi Alade, Waje and Falz who doubled as both celebrity coaches and judges, Nancy Isime and Toke Makinwa, co-hosts of the show have added great colour to the third season.

 

The first season of The Voice Nigeria was broadcast on Africa Magic from April 10 to July 31, 2016.

Agharese Emokpae popularly known as A’rese, a 28-year-old stage actress, won the first season while Daniel Diongoli, professionally known as Idyl, won season 2.

 

The music reality TV show is designed to discover and promote talented singers to actualise their dreams of becoming international stars.
