TANKER ACCIDENT : LASTMA RESCUE ANOTHER 4 ACCIDENT VICTIMS INSIDE TRICYCLES AT IKOTUN, LAGOS

…Tricycle driver with one passenger died instantly.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today rescued another 4 fatal accident victims inside mini commercial buses (tricycles) around Ikotun area of Lagos.

The accident which occurred around 12:30 pm today involved a fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125) and 4 mini commercial buses (tricycles) with registration nos (LSD 83 QM), (AKD 690 QK) & (AKL 87 QF)

The driver of one of the mini commercial bus (tricycle) with one passenger died instantly.

Those four (4) rescued accident victims by Lastma personnel were 2 pregnant women and 2 children.

Lastma personnel immediately handed over those rescued victims to Police men from Ikotun Police Station who took them to General Hospital for treatment.

 

A preliminary investigation revealed that the fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125) had a brake failure and crushed 3 tricycles by a valley around synagogue when going towards Ikotun.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) immediately moved the tanker with those crushed tricycles to Ikotun Police Station

Other emergency responders including the Nigerian Police men from Ikotun Police Station were at the scene of the accident.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr Bolaji Oreagba however warned tanker owners and drivers to always ensure that their trucks are properly checked and in good conditions before embarking on any journey.

LASTMA IMPOUNDS 30 VEHICLES OVER ILLEGAL PARKING/UNPAINTED IN LAGOS

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in continuation of a general enforcement operations to unlock every traffic bottleneck across the State today impounded 30 vehicles over illegal parking and unpainted around Apongbon and Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that enforcement operations were carried out in compliance with the directive of Hon. Sola Giwa the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation.

Mr. Adebayo confirmed further that the exercise was carried out after several warnings to both private and commercial bus drivers to stop indiscriminate parking by road sides, kerbs, walkways including road setbacks across the State.

“It was nauseating seeing these private and commercial bus drivers constituting public nuisance by parking at free will thereby causing avoidable gridlock and inconveniencing to other motorists and road users.”

“We will continue to ensure free flow of traffic by scaling up our enforcement and clampdown on these stubborn private and commercial bus drivers,”

LASTMA Impounds Cars at Glover Road, Ikoyi

Mr. Adebayo maintained that owners/drivers of these impounded vehicles would be charged to the Lagos State Mobile Court for contravening the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

LASTMA ARRESTS THREE NOTORIOUS ‘ONE CHANCE’ ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVER OPERATIONAL VEHICLE AT ABULE-EGBA, LAGOS

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today arrested three notorious ‘one chance’ armed robbers by Jubilee Bridge around Abule-Egba area of Lagos.

In a press statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that they were arrested by LASTMA personnel alongside with their operational vehicle a painted ‘T4’ commercial bus (APP 406 YE) at U-turn area of Abule-Egba.

Immediately they were arrested one of them escaped with a P.O.S machine before the arrival of the Police men.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they were notorious ‘one-chance’ armed robbers terrorising the entire Abule-Egba and its environs.

Investigation further revealed that they were being chased by members of the public after they noticed that a man was pushed down from their vehicle after robbing him of his valuables.

They drove recklessly in order to evade arrest before they were eventually caught by Lastma officials controlling and managing traffic around the Abule-Egba axis.

The two suspects were later handed over to Police men from the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for further investigation.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr Bakare Oki Olalekan however appealed to members of the public particularly commuters to be very vigilant and stop boarding commercial buses by road side popularity called ‘So-le’

FRSC CORPS MARSHAL REDEPLOYS DEPUTY CORPS MARSHALS SHEHU ALKALI ZAKI, BISI KAZEEM AND ASSISTANT CORPS MARSHAL JONAS AGWU FOR EFFICIENCY AND GREATER PERFORMANCE

As part of strategic initiative targeted at ensuring full realization of the corporate strategic goals of the Corps for the year 2024, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Ali Biu has approved the redeployment of 2 Deputy Corps Marshals, and 1 Assistant Corps Marshal to key Departments and Corps offices in order to give a boost to existing efforts of the Corps towards creating a safer motoring environment.

The redeployed senior officers, Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) Shehu Alkali Zaki fsi, the erstwhile Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Training Department is to henceforth oversee the affairs of the Department of Operations, while the former Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem fsi, anipr, mnim is to proceed as the DCM in charge of Training Department at the National Headquarters, Abuja.

In addition to the above, the Corps Marshal also approved the redeployment of the former Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Command Administration and Strategies (CAS), Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu mni to take over the administration of the Corps Public Education Office hitherto held by Deputy Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem.

You would recall that this redeployment of the outgoing Corps Public Education Officer who was recently appointed Deputy Corps Marshal marks his first deployment on the new rank.

Expectedly, the Corps Marshal expressed confidence in the capacity and experiences of the newly redeployed senior officers to deliver on mandate as he charged them to bring their professional expertise for impactful leadership.

The redeployment is with effect from 15 January, 2024 which marks the end of the ongoing Operation Zero Tolerance Special Patrol.
