A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja in Lagos State on Thursday ordered the detention of Chidi Eze, a 50-year-old man, who resides in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping his friend’s sister.

Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje, gave the order following a motion moved by the Prosecution Counsel,  DSP Kehinde Ajayi that the matter be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice on the next step for the said case.

Kubeinje, who did not take the plea of Eze owning to there gravity of his alleged offense directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send it to the DPP for advice.

The magistrate later adjourned the case until May 5, for further hearing.

Ajayi told the court that Eze committed the offense on the 13th of March at Rabiu Ajose Street, Isheri Osun, Lagos.

The prosecutor said Eze, who is a friend of the victim’s brother forcefully took canal knowledge.

The offense, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which prescribes life imprisonment if found guilty of the said offense.
