In every country, securing lives and properties does not come in handy. In fact, In Nigeria today, it’s an herculean task. It becomes a rollover when you find the required expertise of a committed individual who has the capacity, track records and foresight. For Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Abiodun Sylvester Alabi with over three decades of experience, serving notably among United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) in 2001, elite Police Mobile Force as Unit Commander in August 2001, Squadron Commander of Police Mobile Force Squadron 43 Lagos (Diplomatic Protection Squadron) in charge of the security of all Embassies in Lagos, Lion Building Divisional Headquarters as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and later redeployed as the DPO of Ikeja Divisional Headquarters, among many capacities he had acted his records are still unmatched and his performance has remained sterling.
Ever since he assumed the role as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, naysayers have wondered how he is succeeding in his quest to make Lagos a crime-free state. They are quick to forget that; his background prepared him for the challenges ahead. His experience as a seasoned and time-tested cop who rose through the ranks armed with discipline, dedication and selflessness in ensuring a safer Lagos has made his style envious of many. Despite the many challenges he has faced while in office, his tenure has remained a nightmare for criminals across the state as many of them have relocated to nearby states.
Those who have served under the Ekiti-born super cop will attest to the fact that when it comes to the business of policing he is not joking. Despite his affable and friendly nature, throwing his doors open for all sundry, he has seriously warned his men never to take his open arms for granted as all he wants for them is to function optimally ensuring that all nooks and crannies in Lagos are properly guarded against invasion. In his usual way of making his commitment to Lagosians that their safety is his number one priority after several alarm was raised over a possible invasion of Lagos by some unscrupulous elements, the Sociology Graduate has told Lagosians that such invasion will never happen as he has strategically placed his men on red alert. “On the Security threat, CP Alabi has placed all tactical squads, intelligence gathering team, Anti-Kidnapping Units, Anti-Bomb Squad, Marine Police and other necessary teams on alert. All land and water borders are currently under heavy stop and search with security presence. He has ordered that no criminal should be spared in the operation. He has vowed never to back down or relent till Lagos becomes a safe haven for all.”
