When the Oniru of Iru Land; His Royal Majesty Oba Abdulwasiu Gbolahan Lawal ascended the throne of his forebearers years ago, one assignment he had was to ensure the Kingdom witnessed a massive transformation in all aspects most especially, by upholding and resuscitating its cultural and traditional heritage. It didn’t take him so long to ensure the lost glory of the kingdom is restored.
Many would wonder why he has been shown much love and support ever since his ascension, but close allies to the former Commissioner for Agriculture Lagos state disclosed that; despite the controversies shrouded around his selection and coronation as Oba, he employed wisdom and native intelligence to manage the situation by reconciling all warring factions by also embracing peace throwing his doors wide open for advice and partnership.
To show he is not relenting in projection the rich culture of the Iru people, Oniru hosted the annual Ejiwa Elegba Festival, week-long activities that started on the 14th – 20th March that availed the display of cultural aesthetics and royal parade where sons and daughters of the kingdom converged at the Agbo Elegba, Iru to offer prayers to their ancestors and also celebrate their culture with music, drums, dance and colorful attires. The Oniru has also promised to make sure all festivals that have been on hold are being resuscitated to ensure proper documentation and passing to the next generation to avoid obliteration of the cultural values of Iru people despite civilization.
Royalties spotted at the event were: Alayeluwa Oba Abdulfatai Oyeyinka Aromire (Ijora and Iganmu kingdom), Alayeluwa Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Elegushi of Ikateland), Alayeluwa Oba Tijani Akinloye (Ojomu of Ajiranland), Alagbaara of Agbara (Ogun State), Olota of Otta, Olofin of Isheri, Onisiwo of Tomoro, Onisolu of Solu Alade , Osolu of Irewe kingdom, Ovori of Ibesheland, Alahun of Imore, Olojodu of Ojodu, Alara of Ilara, Alayeluwa Elejigbo of Langbasa, Oba of Shasha kingdom, Obateru of Egbin, Opeluwa of Iddo, Onigbanko of Irede, Alakute of Akute, Onibasa of Basaland, Olu of Ibasa, Oba Ikate of Surulere, Oniba of Iba to mention a few.
