Ever had your heart broken to the extent where you thought you could
never move on? Well, we’ve all been through it at some point in life and
some of us are probably in that phase right now.
Break-ups
are tough because you build a life with someone and then, one find day,
things change. It feels like a void that nothing can fill, doesn’t it?
You know that it is in your best interest to move on but you also find
yourself going back to the past memories and, this, breaks your heart
all over again. Weeks, months and, at times, even years go by and you
feel like the whole world has moved on while you’re where you started.
But
you’ve got to make that effort for yourself. Here are nine things you
need to start doing to start with the moving on process:
1.
The most important part is to keep hurtful thoughts about the break-up
away and hence, distracting yourself is very important.
Being
alone with your thoughts to understand yourself is important but if you
find yourself going back to the toxic thoughts about your ex, it is
highly important to distract yourself. Go out with friends, watch an
interesting movie at home, try cooking with new recipes or anything that
will keep you from thinking about your past relationship.
2. Do new things and work on your personal growth.
Enroll
yourself for a new hobby. It could be dance, painting, cooking, slam
poetry or anything at all that you’ve always wanted to do. With your
relationship not existing anymore, a new hobby will help you get in
touch with your individual self. Moreover, joining a new hobby will help
you meet new people and make new memories without your ex in the picture.
3. Do not contact your ex too regularly.
However
your relationship ended, just make sure you keep your self-respect
intact and don’t contact your ex too often. Asking them to meet you is
also a big no-no. The idea is to keep yourself away from this person who
became an integral part of your life. You need to move away from your
previous life and since your ex was a huge part of it, you’d have to
move away from them as well.
4. Talk about your feelings with your close friends.
It
is extremely important for you to vent out your emotions. Keeping them
all inside yourself with affect your mental health and won’t give you a
chance to let go of the hurt to welcome positive feelings. Talk to your
best friends without any fear of judgement because you need to. The best
part about this is that they’ll suggest solutions to your problems and
help you through the moving on process.
5. You don’t have to resume your dating life until you’re absolutely ready.
Don’t
push yourself to feel something you’re not ready for. You don’t have to
get back into the dating game just yet and you should not hook-up with
someone till you’re absolutely ready. Pushing yourself to do something
you’re not prepared for is only going to make you feel more emotionally
devastated and guilty which are emotions you need to stay away from.
6. Realize that this break-up isn’t the end of the world.
It
may seem like your world is collapsing because such a huge part of your
life has gone away. But realize that this isn’t the worst thing to
happen to you. You will fall in love again and find happiness.
7. Cry your heart out when you need to.
Don’t
be afraid to stay in touch with your emotions and allow yourself to
feel hurt. This will help you to grieve and once you’re done grieving,
you will finally allow yourself to feel happy again.
8. Don’t stalk your ex’s social media because it might be hurtful to you.
While
it is easy to stalk your ex on social media and see what they’re up to,
understand that it may be an extremely hurtful thing for you. You might
come across them going on dates or looking extremely happy without you.
Doing something like this will only make moving on tougher for you and
you don’t want that.
9. Learn to put yourself first.
In
a relationship, you always tend to adjust and a lot of times, you also
start putting the other person before your own needs. Take this as a
positive opportunity to start loving yourself and learn to put yourself
as your priority.
