Regarded as one of the biggest asset Nigeria and Africa has ever had, Folorunsho Alakija did not stumble on wealth by chance; she earned it through sheer dint of hardwork and persistence. This carved a niche for her as she is rated by Forbes as the richest woman in Africa with business empire worth billions of dollars.

Blessed with an endearing personality, the modest and beautiful Vice-Chairman of Famfa Oil Limited, has successfully crested her name in Gold. Her mein, shrewd business acumen, heart of gold and generosity has helped her maintain her spot as the richest woman in Africa.

If we are to count the various facets of life Alakija has touched as a mother, philanthropist and humanitarian, it would take time to achieve, as she has impacted many beyond imagination.

Interestingly, as part of her commitment to empower the health sector, at the 8th Convocation ceremony of the Osun State University where she was honoured with a doctorate degree, she flagged off the building of the Modupe and Folorunsho Alakija Teaching Hospital at a large expanse of land located inside the campus. The modern building, we learnt, was going to cost a whooping sum of N500million with world class health facilities. However, it will conveniently boast of a world-class Community Health Unit, Maternity and Neonatal Medicare, Research and Diagnostic Laboratories, state-of-the-art operating theatre, cutting edge diagnostic imaging, inclusive of C.T.Scan, M.R.I. Scanning facility, Ultra-sound scanning facilities and X-ray and radiotherapy suites.

She no doubt sees the prospects of investing in health care, as the building will further churn out doctors who will meet the World Health Organisation(WHO) standard of numbers of Doctors to a patient. It will further check the massive exodus of Nigerian Doctors to foreign countries, as well patients seeking medical attention abroad.
