How Ifeanyi Ubah Crumbled Chris, Andy Uba’s  Political Dynasty

Until the last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, Chris and Andy Ubah were two political gladiators Anambra State.

They were among the powerful, wealthy and ruthless politicians in the state.   

But in the just-concluded election, Capital Oil boss, Ifeanyi Ubah, shockingly deconstructed the stories and even demystified them. 

 Their story reminds one of the popular African proverbs: “A dog determined to get lost will not listen to the whistle of the hunter.”

How?   Their descent was occasioned by what many described as greed and over-ambition. It was their greatest undoing.

These two brothers and political gladiators were always at each other’s jugular over the   battle of supremacy. 

The ‘war’ took a new and dangerous dimension sometime ago when they decided to contest again each other for the Senate in Anambra South Senatorial District on different political platforms

Andy is currently representing the constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, while his brother, Chris, contested for the position on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

But alas! Their political dynasty seems to be crumbling before their very eyes. 

They have showed the exit door and further proved that they are paper tigers after all. 

Before now,  a source divulged that Chris had told  whoever cared to listen  that  he was tired of being addressed as a political ‘godfather ‘ without any other benefit and he would do anything within his capacity to achieve his aim.

Interestingly, armed with this information, the capital oil boss,who had been in the  wilderness politically, was said to have capitalized on the rift between the two brothers  and strategized to defeat them.

 It will be recalled that the oil magnate had been in a cul-de-sac in his political journey, a situation that made him to literally move from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to the Labour Party, LP, and then Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

In November 2017, Ubah dumped the PDP and returned to APGA, after he was allegedly promised the APGA Anambra South Senatorial District ticket. 

Based on that assurance, he had supported the party in no small way.

 But towards the party’s primary, the APGA leadership announced his disqualification on the grounds that he did not apply to obtain for the party waiver.

This was in spite of his huge contributions to the party. 

He was said to be responsible for the payment of rent for all the offices of APGA nationwide.

He was said to have also provided the needed logistics to sustain the party leadership during the days of Senator Victor Umeh’s leadership struggle with former Governor Peter Obi.

He was also said to be a part of those who assisted Governor Willie Obiano to return to power by delivering his Anambra South during the Governor’s 2017 re-election campaign. 

 In the face of the disappointment, Ubah was said to have been heart-broken, as he had reportedly spent a lot of money to assist the party in the hope that he would be given the much-coveted Senatorial ticket.

Sources said the businessman was miffed over the betrayal by the party leadership. 

Despite the disappointment, the wealthy businessman was not in a hurry to leave the party.

He had thought that he would be able to right the wrong done him. But he was mistaking.

But as the reality dawned on him, he romanced the Young Progressive Party, YPP.

 When he crossed to party, many sneered at him for what they termed his political misadventure.

But like someone who has always believed in his ambition, he held on to his dream. He was undaunted instead he moved on. 

Today, he has the last laugh, as he has trounced those considered as  the gladiators, including the state governor’s preferred candidate, Nicholas  Ukachukwu, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA
