POLARIS BANK HOLDS MEDIA TRAINING FOR TOP JOURNALIST TO COMBATS FAKE NEWS

In a quest to further curb the menace called “FakeNews”, eating up quality Journalism across the world through spreading of purported rumour on social media and other platforms by misleading and misinform the general public; leading financial power house, Polaris Bank, recently took it upon themself to address the lingering issue by putting together a workshop to combat and curb the spreading of Fake News and how journalist’s won’t fall victim.

The gleeful roundtable workshop, held at Jevinik Restarurant, GRA, Ikeja, on Thursday 9th of May, featured top journalist from different media outfit both traditional and online media. The resource person, Mr Taiwo OBE, a veteran journalist and media expert, explained extensively the causes of fake news and how they can be identified.

During the cause of the workshop, He shed more light to ways fake news can be detected. He further added that; fake pictures and video can also be detected with the use of mobile gadgets and smart phone  applications. The practical session, raised several questions from various journalists, who were enlightened on how to discharge their job as gatekeepers to their readers by not circulating fake news on social media or their various news platform. He further harped on the need for journalist to do proper research and also avoid being in haste to break news which makes most journalist fall victim of spreading fake news.

Invited journalist at the workshop, commended the effort of Polaris Bank for floating such a good initiative by empowering journalist on effective way of discharging their duties, using modern technology to their best advantage.
