Rivers State Governor, Wike Relieves Rivers State University VC and DVC of their Appointment

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has terminated the appointment of the vice-chancellor of the Rivers State University, Prof Blessing Chimezie Didia, with immediate effect.

The governor also relieved the deputy vice-chancellor (administration), Professor Magnus Oruwari, of his appointment.

Governor Wike, in a statement released, approved the appointment of Professor Opuenebo B. Owei, deputy vice-chancellor (academics) as the acting vice-chancellor of the institution.

Governor Wike has also suspended the ongoing employment exercise at the university and set up a committee to investigate the employment exercise and report back to him in two weeks.

Recall that Governor Wike issued a query to the vice chancellor of the state university over reports of shooting within the institution’s campus.

A short statement from Simeon Nwakaudu, Wike’s media aide, said the query also had to do with recent rampant complaints of bribery, informally known as ‘sorting’, within the university system.

“Governor Wike directed the vice chancellor of the Rivers State University to respond to the query in writing within 24 hours,” the statement said.

Governor Wike also recently had approved the appointment of the Emir of Lafia, HRH Sidi M. Bage as the Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt.
