Alaafin of Oyo and KWAM 1

Ever since The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi bestowed on Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall KWAM 1, the highly coveted title as the Maiyegun of Yoruba Land, there has been some controversy surrounding the choice of KWAM 1 as the choice to the title. Some averred that; Kwam 1 does not fit such title claiming his alleged ‘Haughtiness’  while some argued that; the Fuji King has united and promoted Yoruba culture and race with his genre of music so he deserves such title from the paramount King of Oyo Kingdom.

Despite the public outcry from naysayers and detractors, on January 2020, at the Alaafin’s palace in Oyo State, Kwam 1 was coronated and bestowed with the title against all odd. Ever since then, it has been from one controversy to the other. Instead of enemies to cease fire and agree to what destiny threw at K1, they refused to desist from bring him down at every given avenue. First, it was his alleged face-off with Ogun Radio broadcaster, MC Murphy, who alleged that; K1 ordered touts to beat the radio broadcaster at an event in Ogun state. The issues generated lots of controversy as K1 denied knowledge of the said allegation, saying; the person in question is a junior brother to him and he cannot order anyone to treat him in such manner.

The management of freelance and independent broadcasters on radio and television across Nigeria threatened to stage a protest at the Alaafins palace in a bid to strip KWAM 1 of his title as Maiyegun. After series of face-off, online and offline, the Olu of Itori; Oba Fatai Akamo reconciled the duo, as they both embraced each-other for peace to reign.

A popular online blogger in diaspora, also made a shocking revelation alleging the acclaimed King of Fuji Music of having an affair with one of Alaafin’s wife Queen Ola Adeyemi. The allegation almost tore apart the filial relationship between the highly respected monarch and the fuji lord. Enmeshed in the controversy, the Olori in question left the palace. She left for Lagos to start a new life and begin her own private business abandoning royal opulence. Both the Fuji musician and Olori proved their innocent as K1 stated unequivocally that; the only time he came in contact with the said Olori was during his installation, when all the Olori came to visit him and he blessed them with some cash according to tradition. The issues generated lots of reaction but  Kwam 1 maintained his stand on the issue. Alas, Kwam 1 was vindicated as palace sources revealed that; from investigation carried out, K1 is innocent of the said allegation. They further added that; Its the work of mischief makers to ensure he was stripped of the title. Like the proverbial ram that moves back during a fight to bring more fire power, Kwam 1 showed class act as he returned back to Oyo kingdom in grand style. As he dished out some breath taking performance last weekend during the installation of Lagos Born property mogul; Aare Tomori Williams as the Aare Onikoyi of Yoruba Land by the Alaafin of Oyo.

At the colorful event, Kwam 1 was given a royal welcome; making his first performance after the alleged affair with the king’s wife. When Kwam 1 mounted the stage, he displayed his mastery of the music business, most especially; the Fuji genre. Decked in a well knitted regal native outfit, Maiyegun performed like never before. The audience could not get enough of him as they continued to scream at the top of their voice to the nostalgic memories of his old songs. With his wave-making track titled ‘Ade Ori Okin’ off his ‘Fuji The Sound’ Album , he also dazzled like a magician. When many though Alaafin was not going to dance to his music, to the chagrin of many, Alaafin flanked by his beautiful wives, mounted the stage as K1 dished out his favorite Oriki. The Oba with the personification of the dreaded grim reaper, danced like an earth worm with a salt poured on it. Alaafin displayed his royal steps to his delight.

Palace sources averred that; it was Kwam 1’s first performance after the controversy so it is grand and important for him. The performance further shows that there is no bad blood between Oba Adeyemi and Kwam 1. If there was bad-blood enemies envisaged, he would not have been allowed to perform in Oyo and Oba Adeyemi would not have mounted the state to dance to his favorite ‘shekere’ music.

The immediate past Deputy President of the Senate and All Progressives Congress APC candidate at the last Delta State guber election; Senator Ovie Omo-Agege CFR, was very vocal in the 9th Senate where he sponsored life-changing bills and made landmark achievements. He came into prominence when he was alleged to have invaded the senate chamber with thugs while he ran away with the mace at the 8th senate, but he long debunked it; stating he knows nothing about what happened.
When he was the deputy president of the senate, his birthdays were met with a roller coaster of gifts, advertorials, calls, text messages, and social media posts. High-profile individuals, captains of industries, political stakeholders and favour seekers throng to his Abuja and Delta home to pay homage and share in his pot full of joy but his birthday this year, was devoid of such opulence he got while in office. We also gathered that; While he was in office, he empowered many people in his capacity to make life easy for those around him. He was a man with a large heart and also went all out to ensure people around him were sorted but only a few of them remembered his birthday.
At his Abuja home on the 3rd of August, his 61st birthday was quiet as only a few people celebrated with him and his family. Favour seekers and friends have deserted him. The benefit he enjoyed while in office was no longer accorded to him as he celebrated his 61st birthday at his Abuja residence with few friends, former aides and his wife Rosemary. Flipping through the newspapers, only a handful of advertorials were placed on his behalf. He seems unperturbed as he made sure he enjoyed his birthday with the few people who came to his house while he had the birthday toast to long life done by Delta State former Governor, James Ibori’s daughter, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu who is also the Chairman House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC.

Abdulsamad Rabiu

Forbes-rated billionaire business magnate; Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu founder of BUA groups is synonymous with that proverbial tsunami hovering around the business firmament, changing business narratives and causing disruption worldwide. His achievements are unrivalled and impeccable that a toddler can even speak of his giant strides to put Nigeria on the world map. While growing up, he learnt the ABC of doing business from his Old Money bag father Alhaji Isyaku Rabiu, and one thing he learnt which he has inculcated in his dealings is; truthfulness, integrity, prudence, Fidelity and the ability to play by the rules not beating the rules.
If you wonder how he was able to maintain a stellar performance on and off business, adhering strictly to the rules has made him rise above all his competitors. Over the years, He has lost billions of dollars trying to remain upright and truthful at a time when many of his peers have exploited the venerability of their numerous customers. Abdulsamad would rather bear the loss than inflict pain on his customers. On several occasions, some of his competitors often fight him for not increasing the prices of his commodities at peak periods. He has been dragged on several mediums, blackmailed but he would rather do things that will be of massive favour to the general masses who are struggling in times of the biting economy.
The BUA group boss sees wealth as God-given, he believes no amount of wealth you have if you are not generous and considerate of the less privileged, the wealth is nothing but absurdity and frivolity that has no impact. That’s why he has over the years invested in generous giving and dangerous philanthropy. In Nigeria of today; no businessman has given more than him. He has crested his name in the hearts of many as one of the biggest philanthropists to ever emerge from Nigeria. His bogus donation to fund research and education across Africa through its yearly $100 million ASR Africa Fund for Social Development.
For a man whose business is tied around sharing prosperity among people and creating healthy competition among competitors, he has never for once amassed wealth illegitimately. He has invested in key areas of the economy and is also known for sharing prosperity with his business magic wand. As of today, he is regarded as one of the biggest investors in the Nigerian economy with business interests in real estate, sugar, cement, oil and gas among other business chains tied to him.
Last weekend the business colossus celebrated his 64th birthday with no fanfare. He opted to make it a private celebration where he needed to display wealth due to the current economic situation in the country when many Nigerians are finding it hard to eat due to the dwindling global economy. Abdulsamad who would have hosted his friends to an elaborate party but opted to offer prayers to his creator, hosted his children and grandchildren. He is one of the few people who believes that Nigeria will have a great turnaround in the current dispensation more reason he is investing heavily to ensure economic prosperity for the country.
