Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tabmuwal, The Executive Governor of Sokoto State is a man of grace blessed with uncommon grace. He is regarded as one of the few politicians in the country with no corruption allegations leveled against him. During his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, he commands respect from all sundry. His tenure as head of the green chamber was known for the developmental strides with the swift passage of bills that moved the country forward.
Despite winning the Sokoto Guber election under the platform of the All progressive congress APC, Aminu Tambuwal remained one of the few who defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP, winning his second term election though not with a wide margin. In the heat of the 2019 election, he threw his hat in the ring to clinch the PDP presidential primary election ticket but narrowly lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who became the flag bearer of the opposition party.
Under his watch as Governor of Sokoto state, the ancient town witnessed a massive transformation in infrastructure, agriculture, human capital development, education to mention a few. Lately, the Governor is not happy with the series of losses within his cabinet members for the past few months. 3 commissioners and strong members of his cabinet bid farewell to mother earth while in active service to the state. Since the beginning of January 2021, his commissioner for Home affairs; Alhaji Abdulkadri Jeli-Abubakar died on the 15th of January, Commissioner for Lands and Housing; Surajo Marafa-Gatawa died on the 11th of May and his Commissioner for Agriculture; Muhammadu Tureta also lost his life a few weeks ago.
Sources closed to the governor averred that; he is worried at the series of losses around him since the beginning of 2021. The one that affected him the most is the shocking demise of his commissioner for Agriculture, who played a pivotal role in bringing to life the ideals of his government with increase and investment in agricultural produce to create wealth for the people of Sokoto. “The whole situation is giving him a headache and sleepless night. He is so worried but as a man with so much faith, he won’t show his grief in public. He will keep doing his best to serve his people in the right capacity. He has also prayed to the Almighty that he does not want to suffer any loss till the end of his tenure in 2023.”
Another source disclosed that; In the next coming election in 2023, he might likely throw his hat in the ring again. He is one of the favourite candidates up north to succeed President Buhari. “He is sellable and does not have any corruption case leveled against him. He is also a close ally to Rivers state Governor; Nyesom Wike and also his favourite candidate. For now, he is still focused on serving Sokoto as Governor. When the time comes, he will unveil his plans on how to bring a lasting solution to the problems of Nigeria.”
